A wonderful equestrian painting by Donat Pellegrin (1837 - 1926), and artist who specialised in the depiction of horses, often painting steeplechase and hunting scenes.
Here, we see two ladies and their companion enjoying a ride in the woods in dappled sunlight.
Dating from circa 1890-1900, our oil on canvas is signed at the lower right and measures 55 x 46cm. The canvas has been restored and marks from the horizontal stretcher bars can be perceived. The overall framed size in a more recent frame, which brings out the art nouveau qualities of the painting is 68 x 58cm.
