A major, mid century modern work by French artist Claude Dechezelle (1928-2003). Having studied with Jean Dupas, the art deco painter and designer, at the Paris Academy of Fine Arts. Dechezelle he obtains the Velasquez Prize and with it, a scholarship to work at the Casa Velazquez in Madrid from 1955-1957. The painted presented here, depicting an abstracted southern city, was painted during this period. Dechezelle would continue to obtain the Eugne Carrire Prize in 1965, and a Gold Medal at the Salon des Artistes Franais in 1984. His work was shown at the Paris Biennale, and a posthumous exhibition took place at the Fondation Taylor in 2005: His work is elegant, timeless and dynamic, and perfect for the 21st Century.
Paintings by Dechezelle are held by the Casa de Velazquez and the National Art Historical Institute in Paris.
