Sometimes one can tell something about an artist from his painting: for instance, I am certain that these airy, poetic and gentle "Abstracted Trees by the Sea" could not have been painted by an unkind man.
Pierre Tritsch was born in Algiers in 1929, and studied at the Fine Art Academy there under Louis Fernez. Later, at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris, he studied with Roger Chapelin-Midi. Tritsch was awared the prestigeous second Prize of Rome in 1959.
The painting presented here dates from this very period, the mid to late 1950s, and has excellent provenance: it was exhibited and acquired at the highly reputed Galerie Framont on rue de Saint Peres in the St Germain district of Paris.
An oil on canvas, our painting measures 22 x 33 cm. In a simple gilded wooden frame, the overall size is 26 x 37cm.
