A gorgeous view of a "Mas", the traditional southern French farmhouse, nestled among olive trees, under a deep blue sky. Painted in the traditional style of the Provence artists, with a paint knife, as well as with loose impressionist brush strokes, the painting is both timeless and modern.
Lucien Potronat (1889-1974) studied art in his native Lyons, then moved to Paris, where he exhibited at the Winter Salon, and the Salon des Indpendants. He started working on the Riviera from the late 1930s onwards, and came to specialise in painting the countryside of the French Riviera.
Dating from the 1950s or early 1960s, our oil on canvas measures 46 x 55 cm and is signed at the lower right. It is presented in its original light natural wood frame, the overall size being 57 x 66 cm
