This is the most etherial still life I have encountered in a while. As you will have gathered from the title, I particularly like the little cloud behind the jug - it almost foreshadows Magritte and adds a dreamlike quality to the scene.

Dating from the 1920s this oil on canvas is unsigned. There is a faint inscription "Tullat" on the stretcher and on the back of the canvas. This most likely refers to the artist Luc Tullat (born 1895). Tullat signed her work with the male Christian name 'Luc' (= Lucas). However, she was actually called - Lucie!
Tullat studied at the lcole nationale des Beaux-Arts de Paris from 1919 to 1925. She exhibited regularly at Paris Salon dAutomne and Salon des Tuileries.

The original canvas has been consolidated and measures 46 x 55 cm. The overall framed size in a 1930s stripped pine frame are 56 x 63 cm.
