A highly atmospheric early 20th century symbolist painting, which depicts a castle towering on a hill in the glow of evening light. The painting exudes both warmth and mystery.

An oil on canvas, it is dated 1915 and signed A Hugens at the lower right. Acquired in Paris, the landscape seems to be mediterranean, while the artist may have been Flemish in origin.

The painting has been restored and the original canvas has been consolidated. The visible craquelure is solid.

Measuring 39 x 39 cm, the overall size including a more recent frame is 48 x 48 cm.
