A serene summer landscape by Victor Alexandre Humbert Garnier (1858-1916). Born in Nancy in the Lorraine region of France, he studied with Jules Adler before travelling to Italy, where he painted numerous landscapes. He returned to the East of France however, and settled in Remiremont, in the Voges. It is this mountain range that is depicted here, along with - I hasard to guess - the young Moselle river, which springs nearby;

A Voges landscape, titled "The End of the Season" by Victor Alexandre Humbert Garnier is in the Museum of Langres. Another Voges landscape by the artist was exhibited at the Salon des Champs-Elyses in 1895.

The oil on canvas presented here measures 38 x 55 cm and is signed at the lower right, dated 1901, and dedicated by the artist ('chaud souvenir'). It is presented in a lovely luxurious frame, which has minor repair to one side. The overall framed size is 55 x 72 cm.
