Here is bustling Paris life at Notre Dame Cathedral, by Maurice Fallis (French, 1883-1965,), an artist who specialised in Paris street scenes. Maurice's work was recently shown at the Museé de l'Ile de France/the Chateau de Sceaux, alongside the likes of Caillebotte and Signac.
Maurice Failles studied with the French Impressionist Master Francois Gall - it is said he left some of his paintings unsigned so as to create a doubt whether he, or Francois Gall had painted a certain artworks!
Our painting however - an oil on paper mounted on to board by the artist himself - is signed at the lower right. Painted circa 1935-40, it measures 38 x 55 cm. The overall size with a vintage natural wood frame is 45 x 58 cm
