A charming depiction of a woman on her way to a wash-house (called "lavoir" in French) on the river. Small wooden wash-houses such as the one you see in the picture were used commonly well into the 1930s. It is springtime, a somewhat cloudy day, and the atmosphere of the river is somewhat dreamlike.
An oil on artist's panel by the Parisian supplier L. Bourdillon in Montparnasse, the painting is French in origin, and dated Avril (19)28. Measuring 41 x 27 cm, the overall size in its original frame is 43 x 32 cm. The frame is solid but with some visible wear and repair. .
