A large, elegant, minimalist sculpture of a horse, dating from the mid twentith century. It strikingly combines modernity with archaic traditions. It is a very rare work by Balinese Master Sculptor Mangku Jedeng (b 1930) who was active in Sumampan, a village that was home to a number of artists in the 1960s and 70s. The sculpture is very discreetly signed MJedeng on the left hind hoof, and numbered 5/8
The work has a beautiful verdigris patina which invites touch. The bronze is full, and hence the weight of the object is about 5 kg. It was acquired from an important collection of Asian Art in the North of France.
