A dashing lady lying in a field, in the late summer of 1912: this is a very modern and interesting work, painted with a distinctly fauvist palette that is tempered by impressionism.
The artist is Jean Lon Plumet (1871-1939), who certainly had no idea at the time that less than two years later, he would be fighting in the war.
Plumet exhibited at the Salon d'Automne, the Salon des Indpendents and at the National Society of Fine Arts. Numerous works by the artists are in French Museums such as the Museum of Macon, the French National Library, the Museum of Puteaux, and the Museum of Fine Arts in Troyes.
Our oil on canvas is signed and dated at the lower right and measures 46 x 55 cm. The overall framed size is 63 x 72 cm.
